"To loose the bonds of wickedness
To undo the heavy burdens
To let the oppressed go free
And that you break every yoke"
Isaiah 58:6
This article was not written by me. It was written by my daughter, Lisa. But it moved me so much I wanted to include it in my blog. Although the subject in this article is Human Trafficking, the ideas it presents could be applied to any Christian ministry you have been called to. Thank you for reading it.
I will be the first person to admit I am addicted to Pinterest. I don’t usually pin food, crafts, or cute animal pictures like some people. I’m drawn to pins that remind me of my Faith and motivate me to be a better person. When asked to write an article for the Trafficking Justice newsletter, the non-profit group I belong to, two things came to my mind. The first was a favorite pin of mine that says, “The giant in front of you is never bigger than the God inside of you”. I hope each of us can always remember that.
Human trafficking is a giant that many of us feel ill equipped to battle. I am here to tell every single one of you that you weren’t called to this fight by chance. Your calling was always in His plan; He will show you in time what an amazing difference you can make. Some of us were called to bring awareness to this topic, some to work in restoration or prevention, some for legal advocacy, and yet others for intervention. What you have to offer is needed and valued. And, no matter your focus, prayer is our track for those called to simply cry out to Jesus that we can bring the healing and compassion to conquer this giant in our world.
We are thankful for the extra attention paid to trafficking leading up to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, it’s a sad reality that this heartbreaking issue was a struggle before the big event and will continue now that it has passed. We can only hope that the increased awareness brought new warriors to our fight. We will help equip them to pursue whatever area they are called to. Let’s use the momentum provided to dig in to this modern-day slavery. This is both a global issue and something happening in communities here, throughout our state and country.
The second thing that came to mind was a devotion I watched during Advent. The devotion spoke of how our God is a God of miracles. It was a reminder that we should not think small in our hopes and prayers. God is wanting us to ask Him to perform miracles as big as we can dream. Human trafficking may look like something that is too big for us to tackle. Some of us might feel we are too small to make a difference. We are not. He will guide us and we will perform the incredible miracle of taking down the enemy and setting the captives free.
As you journey, remember Matthew 17:20. He replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
